Advice on swimming for exercise 2 Years, 3 Months ago

I really want to get into swimming for exercise, but do not know where to start. I know how to swim pretty well, but do not know of any daily routine to do. I guess the first thing is I don't know a good place to swim - any ideas? Second, I don't know any other exercises besides doing laps using the "crawl" form (I think that's what it's called). Any advice would help!
